Dietary supplements: You should be aware of this

Can we legally purchase and take in cannabis in France today? Yes and no. Yes, since the state has relaxed its policies on CBD, including through the Minister of Health. And no, at the same time, since just products containing cannabidiol (CBD), an active compound that does not have the psychoactive impacts credited to THC, are considered legal. Let us analyze what is legal and what is not with regard to cannabis and CBD culture.

CBD is legal in France, however THC is not

Marijuana must not be confused with cannabidiol. Especially given that the 2nd is legal in certain forms in France … While the other is not! Due to the fact that cannabidiol (known by the acronym CBD) is simply among the many active substances from the hemp plant, which does not have the psychoactive impacts of its cousin THC – the one that makes you “stone”.

Simply put, what is usually called “cannabis”, which includes high concentrations of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is still considered a narcotic product. And therefore prohibited in France as in lots of nations on the planet. On the other hand, cannabis which gives pride of place to the cannabinoid called cannabidiol, it is legal as long as its THC levels do not exceed 0.2%.

However, the legislation remains unclear in France on this subject. Presently, there is no law that makes it clear whether CBD is legal or not. Concretely, it is licensed for sale in the form of E-liquid, to be used in an e cigarette. However it is also found in other forms (including oil or paste), without its purchase and consumption being reprehensible … To attempt to make it simple, let’s state that nine CBD is not restricted by French law, unlike THC

CBD vs THC.

Although CBD and THC are indistinguishable, they are extremely various. These are the best known of the 500 cannabinoids found in hemp. And each has its specific impacts. THC is especially known for its psychoactive properties: it triggers a change in the state of awareness by acting directly on the brain. By taking in cannabis rich in THC, we “hover”: wellness, euphoria, relaxation … But also red eyes, dilated students and, sometimes, anxiety and even paranoia.

CBD has nothing to do with it. It is not euphoric. It does not trigger anxiety or anxiety attacks. On the contrary: cannabidiol is in the procedure of making its way by virtue of its advantageous healing impacts. CBD assists eliminate pain and inflammation, minimize anxiety, alleviate the suffering of victims of anxiety attacks and depression, and even deal with certain diseases (such as epilepsy or Alzheimer’s). In addition, it has a really low toxicity and presents (practically) no addicting danger, even if the absence of scientific research studies lowers these attributes to mere hypotheses.

Legalization of CBD in France: should we go further?

Certainly, the legal development concerning CBD is positive, however everything remains to be done. The health ministry wishes to beware, and the government’s position on the matter looks like a balancing act. At the same time, the National Medicines Agency has plainly spoken up. We therefore take care of the goat and the cabbage so as not to get too involved, while the vaporized cannabidiol has been offered in France for a few years currently, benefiting from the legal ambiguity that continues.

Beyond the 0.2% THC limit licensed in marketed products, it must be borne in mind that just the liquid type of CBD (planned for electronic cigarettes) is really legal. The purchase and consumption of resin or smoking herb is therefore not managed, particularly given that the THC level is typically greater (around 15%). In addition, just the use of seeds and fibers is licensed in France. However what about CBD oil, which enables you to delight in the benefits of the compound without exposing your lungs to possibly harmful smoke? What about CBD paste? On these topics, there is radio silence.

In addition, CBD is considered a “dietary supplement”, which restricts providing it as a medication. And make it an enlightened ad for users and clients. Regrettable, since, in the meantime, lots of potential beneficiaries are not benefiting from it. It is therefore needed to go further and clarify things: more than a question of customer well-being, it refers public health.
